Megadeth

Megadeth’s self-titled seventeenth studio album arrives as a definitive, high-octane mic drop for Dave Mustaine’s storied career. It is a lean, 41minutes masterclass that successfully bridges the gap between the technical savagery of Rust in Peace and the rhythmic muscle of their mid-90s era.

The standout element here is the synergy between Mustaine and new guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari. Their trade-off solos on tracks like Tipping Point are breath-taking, proving the band hasn't lost an ounce of its bite. While Mustaine’s signature snarl remains as divisive and defiant as ever, there is a surprising layer of reflection in the songwriting particularly on the haunting closer, The Last Note.

Though a few tracks lean into familiar tropes, the album feels vital rather than nostalgic. By reclaiming his legacy with a fiery cover of Ride the Lightning, Mustaine brings his journey full circle. It’s a dignified, technical, and unapologetic farewell that cements Megadeth's place at the top of the thrash mountain.
