Artemisia Records
Founded by brothers Aaron and Nathan Weaver of Wolves in the Throne Room, Artemisia Records serves as both a creative sanctuary and an independent label dedicated to releasing the band’s music and related projects. Established in Olympia, Washington, the label reflects the same values that define the band’s artistic vision: self-sufficiency, deep ecological awareness, and a rejection of commercial compromise. More than a business venture, Artemisia Records functions as an extension of the Weavers’ philosophical and aesthetic worldview.
From its inception, Artemisia Records was designed to maintain full artistic control over the creation, production, and distribution of Wolves in the Throne Room’s work. The label’s releases including Celestial Lineage (2011), Celestite (2014), and Primordial Arcana (2021) showcase a consistent commitment to craftsmanship and atmosphere. Each album feels like a natural artifact, carefully constructed and presented with reverence for both sound and physical form. The label’s vinyl editions, artwork, and packaging reflect the same organic and mystical sensibility that permeates the music itself.
Operating from their own Owl Lodge Studio in the forests of Washington State, Artemisia Records embodies a do-it-yourself ethos rooted in environmental consciousness. The label’s approach to production and distribution prioritizes sustainability and authenticity over mass consumption, aligning with the Weavers’ belief that music can serve as a form of ecological and spiritual connection.
Sonically and philosophically, Artemisia Records has carved out a unique space within the broader landscape of independent metal and experimental music. It stands apart not only for the quality of its releases but also for the coherence of its vision a balance between mysticism, nature, and artistic integrity. While its catalog remains intentionally limited, each release feels deliberate, personal, and aligned with the label’s core ethos of ritual, reflection, and reverence for the natural world.
