This Will Destroy You
This Will Destroy You is an American post-rock band from San Marcos, Texas, formed in 2004. The band typically composes lengthy atmospheric instrumental pieces, featuring layers of effects-laden guitar and a heavy usage of dynamics. Founded by guitarists Jeremy Galindo and Christopher Royal King along with bassist Raymond Brown and drummer Andrew Miller, the band evolved from initially having vocals to embracing a purely instrumental approach after discovering it better suited their musical vision.
The band's sound is characterized by a wide dynamic range, with slow build-ups to a wall of noise crescendo, combining ambient soundscapes with simple melodies and extensive use of guitar effects like reverb, sustain, and distortion. While often categorized as post-rock and frequently compared to fellow Texas band Explosions in the Sky, the band members largely reject these labels, preferring to describe their evolved sound as doomgaze (a blend of doom metal and shoegaze).
This Will Destroy You has released several critically acclaimed albums, with their fourth album Another Language (2014) entering the Billboard Heatseekers Album Chart at number 7. Their music has also found its way into major films, with The Mighty Rio Grande featured in Moneyball (2011), Earth to Echo (2014), and Room (2015).
