Apparat

Apparat is the stage name of Sascha Ring (born 27 June 1978), a German electronic musician. He was previously co-owner of Shitkatapult Records and has undergone a significant artistic evolution throughout his career. Starting out with dancefloor-oriented techno, he shifted focus towards ambient music, becoming more interested in designing sounds than beats.

Ring is perhaps best known for his collaborative work alongside his solo career. He collaborates with Modeselektor under the name Moderat, a project that has become highly influential in the electronic music scene. Ring collaborated with Ellen Allien in 2003 on the album Berlinette and again in 2006 on the album Orchestra of Bubbles, establishing his reputation as a versatile collaborator in Berlin's electronic music community.

His music has achieved significant recognition both critically and commercially. In 2011, he signed with Mute Records, through which he released his new record The Devil's Walk, named after a political poem by romantic English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, in September. His 2019 album LP5 received particularly high acclaim, being nominated for Best Electronic Album in the 2020 Grammy Awards and winning IMPALA's European Independent Album of the Year Award 2019.

Apparat's music has gained widespread recognition through its use in film and television. His track Goodbye featuring Soap&Skin was used in a climactic scene in the Season 4 finale of Breaking Bad, the intro for the 2017 Netflix series Dark, and numerous other productions, demonstrating the cinematic quality and emotional depth of his compositions.

Through his evolution from techno producer to ambient composer and his successful collaborations, Apparat has established himself as one of Germany's most important electronic music artists, consistently pushing the boundaries between dance music and experimental soundscapes.
